Miike's adaptation of Hiroshi Takahashi's wickedly violent teen high school comic is a visual onslaught of bloody mayhem, macho violence and brutual "mano a mano" combat. Yet surprisingly, amid the chaos Miike delievers a deep story which akins high school life to feudal warfare, where alliances are sought, deals made and friendships tested, all in the name of becoming top of the class.
