A hot summer night, during the course of a fireworks display, Kikuji (Etsushi Toyokawa) and Fuyuka Irie (Shinobu Terajima) makes passionate love. When their sexual escapade ends, Fuyuka does not wake up. Kikuji then calls the police and confesses to the murder of Fuyuka.
One year earlier, Kikuji was introduced to his adoring fan Fuyuka by his editor in Kyoto. Kikuji was once a best selling author, but at the time was stuck in a decade long dry spell. The couple soon become lovers, criss crossing between Tokyo and Kyoto to see more of each other. Although Fuyuka was initially a shy housewife, she becomes more brazen with encounter with Kukuji. Meanwhile, Kikuji feels inspired by their torrid affair and begins writing his first novel in many years.
Kikuji is now in police custody and states that he only complied with Fuyuka's wish. The police does not believe his story, but a female D.A., named Miyuki Oribe, sympathized with his story. Miyuki repeatedly
