Ryota (Fukuyama Masaharu) believed that he had the perfect family until hes told that his six-year-old son was switched at birth. Now, Ryota has the choice of keeping the boy he has raised for six years or swapping him with a stranger who happens to be related by blood. After Still Walking and I Wish, Kore-eda Hirokazu explores the complexity of the familial bond once more with this engrossing drama. The acclaimed filmmaker depicts a devastating situation with a light, down-to-earth touch, creating a sense of intimacy that brings us closer to the characters. However, the director never loses focus on the key question: Are families made by blood or by love?
