Amy Winehouse was just 27 years old when she died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011, ending an ongoing battle with addiction and substance abuse that had plagued her for years. Even at this young age, Amy had already secured her place in history as one of the most unique voices in contemporary music.
Using a collage of unseen videos, archival footage and her own words, award-winning director Asif Kapadia attempts to uncover the real Amy from behind the blizzard of tabloid coverage, family in-fighting and deeply personal music. Controversial, revealing and utterly heartbreaking, Amy is a portrait of a singular talent who was ridiculed as much as she was championed, who was ultimately destroyed by the same raw untameable energy that made her a star.
