This is the story of three Chinese women, each from very different background, who emigrate to New York. They come from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively. Stchingowa, the mainlander, married Thomas, but no matter how hard she tries, she cannot come to terms either with him or her in-laws. Sylvia Chang is the Taiwanese. She has lived in New York for twelve years but is still unable to have a successful relationship with a western man. Maggie Cheung is the archetypal Hong Kong woman: decisive, pushy and successful. She runs a restaurant and a stock and real estate business. Despite being at such odds with their new environment and coming from such different worlds, the women have one thing in common, the lives they really live and the lives they disclose are, like most New Yorkers, very different... ...
