This is the film with which Lucilla You Min, the Audrey Hepburn of the Hong Kong cinema in the 1950's and 60's, won her first Best Actress Award at the Asian Film Festival. She plays a young girl who is torn between her divorced mother and her father (who turns out to be only her foster father). Mother wants her to accompany herself to Italy and study music there, whereas father is injured in an accident....
Melodramatic yet restrained, heavily-plotted yet never sensational, the film is also marked by the proficient direction of Tang Huang, the meticulously written and well-structured screenplay, as well as a fine cast.
