Recorded at the Royal Albert Hall on 29 November 2002 ? the first anniversary of Harrison's death ? the performance features a wealth of talents who knew Harrison well. Eric Clapton, one of Harrison's closest friends, is not only a performer but the musical director of the show. Representing Indian music, an important influence on Harrison's sound, is Ravi Shankar and his daughter Anoushka Shankar. Among Harrison's rock and roll cohorts are Jeff Lynne, Gary Brooker, Joe Brown, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Billy Preston and Harrison's two former bandmates, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
Concert for George was released in November 2003, marking the second anniversary of Harrison's death, and was warmly received by the public, reaching #97 in the US. In 2005, the accompanying music DVD won the Best Long Form Video Grammy. The DVD contains additional material including "Sit On My Face" and "The Lumberjack Song" by Monty Python, and "Horse To The Water" featuring Jools Holland with vocals by Sam Brown, daughter of British singer Joe Brown. One disc of the double DVD set is the theatrical version of the film and the other is the complete concert.
In 2008, iTunes released the album, and included "Horse To The Water", leaving the Monty Python tracks as the only part of the concert not released. iTunes incorrectly attributes Paul McCartney as a main performer on "Your Eyes". McCartney does not play on the track.
